We are actually controlling our same player in that boss fight - it's not part of the hallucination, we've fully mutated at this point - and that's the same Trace 2 we've seen the whole time fighting us.Īfter the battle, our original protagonist Trace is gone, and the one we control from that point onward is Trace 2. When the pathogen kicks in for Player Trace, there's no fixing that. Up until the hallucination segment, both are working independently and have slightly different immediate experiences, but of course have most of the same memories and are essentially the same person, just making different situational decisions. Here's my hot take: at the beginning, Elsenova doesn't just activate one cloning machine. We see him walk through doors ahead of us, stand on ledges we can't reach yet, and so forth. However, recall that we encounter another Trace a number of times up until this point. She purges the pathogen and we move on from the fever dream. ![]() It has largely been accepted online - and explained by Elsenova (who we know has no problem lying to Trace) - that we are playing as the same Trace before and after this experience. Thinking about AV2's story implications made me reassess this segment from the original, where Trace starts to succumb to the pathogen and fights himself as a boss.
